Sri Raag
From SikhiPedia
Siree Raag or Sri Raag (Sri Raga) - The basis of this Raag is steeped in the traditions of mainstream Indian Classical music. Siri Raag is serious and thought provoking in its nature and creates an atmosphere where the listener is led to heed the advice given therein. The listener is made aware of the truth of the message and with this 'education' is given the strength to face the future with both humility and the 'gained' knowledge.
Raag Siree was favoured by the Hindus for religious occasions and is found in many of the old treatises. In the Raagmala listed as a parent raga, it currently is a member of the puroi thata. Still a popular concert raga today, it is considered one of the most famous from among the North Indian classical system. Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Guru Amardaas Ji, Guru Ramdaas Ji, and Guru Arjan Dev Ji composed to this raag. Traditionally performed at sunset, it is assigned to the rainy season as well as the months of November and December. Its mood is one of majesty combined with prayerful meditation. This raga is always referred to as "Siree Raag" rather than placing the term raga before the name. It accompanies about 142 shabads.
