Gurmeet Ram Rahim

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is the head of the Dera Sacha Sauda cult based in Sirsa, Haryana. He enjoys large following in different parts of Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan. Ever since coming into the limelight at the leader of Sacha Sauda cult, he was demonstrated controversies at all levels. Gurmeet has various criminal cases pending upon him, which include rape and murder charges. In 2008, the controversial self-styled God-man touched the headlines again when he breathed yet another controversy by mimicking Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s attire, which included a chola and kalgi.

Criminal Cases

Amongst many of the charges laid on him by different parties and individuals, the most damaging ones including his involvement in the murder cases of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati and his personal driver Ranjit Singh Haryana. Furthermore, he also faces charges in several cases of abusing his women followers, called saadhvis. In 2002, one former follower of Gurmeet Ram Rahim sent an anonymous letter to Atal Bihari Vajpayee the then Prime Minister of India alleging that she had been raped by Gurmeet Ram Rahim. The saadhvi further alleged that she knew over fifty other women who had faced similar treatments while staying at the dera residential homes. The letter was also forwarded to Chief Minister of Punjab, Sessions Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court. All cases pending upon Gurmeet Ram Rahim are moving at snail pace and thus the Indian Court system has been a major cause of disappointment for the Sikh masses who have been demanding swift and strict action against the dera leader.
